hello again! excited to hear from me? instead of cosy home, i am in nouakchott for some bureaucracy!

in any case, it gives me a chance to talk about yule and christmas.

a certain number of you have asked about possible holiday presents, so let me oblige... despite the relative simplicity of my life, i really have all that i could possibly need and more. i actually think that this thanksgiving i felt more grateful that i ever had. instead, i thought i'd be much more primadonna-demanding and ask for something more involved than a gift certificate to blockbuster...

what i'd really like is for everyone who is reading this diary to go out and volunteer sometime before the end of february - just one day or afternoon - and write to tell me what you did. need some ideas? for people in the DC area, there's a charity i very much like that distributes groceries to the AIDS community, among other things...food and friends

or you could do something low key, like collecting money from your workplace. check out the heifer project, which gives the people of developing countries livestock. it's kicking, because it's sustainable. read about it!

anyway, i know of quite a few of you who could stand to donate a couple hours. good for the soul and all that!

i myself plan to celebrate yule with some friends in kankossa (can someone send me the lyrics to "gaudete"? also, any good ideas on how to celebrate?) and christmas with the same friends, and perhaps others, in kiffa. new years in nouakchott maybe? i'm not sure.

anyway, i'll surely be thinking and sending happy thoughts to all of you guys!
