15.12.04 - 18:40 Hurray! For the delight of the non-squeamish, here is the series entitled "What Happens to a Sheep on Tabasky?" (Tabasky celebrates the day that God asked Abraham to sacrifice Ismael - yes, Ismael, not Isaac in Islam - and God spared Ismael at the last minute by putting a sheep in his place. Thus, one kills and eats much sheep on Tabasky.) These pictures were taken in February of last year.
Yahya and others skin the sheep in the morning.
The women of the family cut the meat to put in couscous.
Idrissa, the fifteen-year-old bandit who stole my shorts, here grills the meat for mishway.
Again, here's Yahya eating the mishway.
And here are my brothers Isa and Abdurachman holding the sheep's head. Yum!
Here we have Yahya and his cronies eating various couscous/mutton dishes.
And here are a host of neighborhood children eating couscous. In the plaid shirt is my nephew Simbala. Nephew Yahya is in the blue shirt with the red collar. His sister Polel is wearing a green shirt. You can only see the face of my niece Fatimata, who is just behind the girl in pink and yellow, and behind the crouching boy who ALWAYS gets in my pictures. Another special friend is Hawati, who is the darker-skinned little girl way in the back.
